5 - Port Alfred to Transkei

The epitome of smart-casual Afrikaaner dress sense. Short sleeved collar shirt, knitted vest, cap, wooly socks, tekkies and navy rugby shorts.

Draining boots at Kei Bridge petrol station. On a motorbike in the rain on the most deadly stretch of motorway in the country on Christmas Eve when all other drivers are drunk is not a good place to be. Still though, job done, drenched and shivering.

Port Alfred (rain), East London (lashings of rain), Kei Bridge (drain boots), Butterworth (once aptly described to me as "downtown Mogadishu", with a 45min traffic jam), Dutya, Mbashe, Qunu, Mqanduli (rain), Hole In The Wall (rain, Hot Toddies, carols and beer).
