Cederberg Sojourn

A last-minute trip to the Cederberg, Western Cape.
500km round trip. 220km on tar and a glorious 280km on gravel.
Great weekend with wonderful folk.

Botmaskop in Stellenbosch, around 07:00. Lovely cool start to the day.
Gydo Pass. The Ceres valley plateau below.

School bus stop near Sandrivier in the Skurweberge

Troublesome digital dislocation

Passable

A bit sandy, but good fun. Near Krommerivier by Truitjieskraal in the Cederberg
Blinkberg Pass, Cederberg

Long roads like this make me smile...

Rhombic Skaapsteker (Psammophylax rhombeatus)

Home for the night. Driehoek farm, Cederberg.

13 - Oudtshoorn to Stellenbosch

Ah, yes, furnature.

Sign on one of those claw-grab type arcade games in Barrydale: "If you do not intend using the sponge please return it to the shop. Thank You!"

River crossing, Breede River.

12 - Cradock to Oudtshoorn

Up at 04:45. What a glorious day for a ride. Early morning sun on a very very Straight Road between Cradock and Bethesda.

06:00 - Spotted this cheeky fellow only yards from the roadside. Behind a flimsy fence thankfully. Not sure who would have come out worse following a collision..

Unbelievably scorching temperatures in the Karoo just east of Willowmore. Not a place to be standing around in full biker outfit taking snapshots of rusty signs.

Vondeling train station.

Dwellings in Vondeling.

More dirt, dust and feckin sheep in the Karoo.

Klaarstroom.

Incredible Meiringspoort Pass just north of De Rust. The picture does it no justice.

Cradock, Graaff-Reinet, Aberdeen, Willowmore, Vondeling, Klaarstroom, De Rust, Oudtshoorn.

11 - Transkei to Cradock

Jan 1 2012. Just crawled out of bed and successfully crawled down the slippiest hill in the Eastern Cape. "Bleary-eyed" would be an understatement.

Púcán's first taste of tar in many many days. Looking fine and rugged.

Main St, Tarkastad.

Royal Hotel in the utterly backward Tarkastad. Not much has changed here since its erection in 1912 methinks.

A close-up of Tom (?) the jolliest kitchen assistant in all the Eastern Cape.

Hole In The Wall, Umtata, Ngcobo, Cofimvaba, Queenstown, Tarkastad, Cradock.

10 - A few NYE snaps

Just a few NYE pics for Franks and Nix

Infamous, much travelled cork.

Infamous, much-worn diving cap

Poor bugger couldn't hack it anymore. Only 04:15 mind you.

9 - Trail Running Transkei

The Wild Coast offers without a doubt some of the finest and funnest trail running in the country.

Lovely, mucky and perpetually mild & drizzly

8 - Transkei day tripping

Púcán overlooking the Bulungula River gorge.

Bulungula River mouth.

Sisi working the mielie fields.

Small wee church at Mdumbi...

...where I spent a night sleeping on the pews with a cat, lawnmowers, an air compressor, a wall-chart of the World and, possibly, Jesus.

CONGDADULATIOA!
